West Cork Music is committed to supporting young musicians. So keep an eye on this page for any developments in the Masterclass Programme.
Listen and learn as advanced students take the extraordinary opportunity to explore chamber music guided by some of the world’s finest artists. The festival’s masterclasses create opportunities for students and audiences to learn more about the intricacies of chamber music, as well as the musical and collaborative skills involved in its performance.
Look out across the programme for performances by the students who take part and you’ll have the chance discover emerging chamber musicians based in Ireland right at the start of their careers.
A masterclass is a high-level tutoring session for young musicians, aspiring to become professional performers. Each class is open to the public. The students will perform a piece or large section of a piece and then receive advice from the tutors on a range of subjects from technique to interpretation. The audience has the chance to see learning in action and discover how performers think on stage. You will also get to listen in on the conversations that ensembles need to have when practising to bring a work from the page to the stage.
The West Cork Chamber Music Festival is not just a week of extraordinary concerts in a fabulous setting. It is also a summer meeting-point for top young ensembles.
The opportunity to take part in Masterclasses and the experience of preparing for concerts at the end of the week are of considerable value in themselves, but the benefits of attending the Festival go further: behind the scenes there is much private tuition going on, and the informal contact between students and artists is a tremendously valuable resource.
Masterclasses take place up to four times daily throughout the Festival and are free to attend.
