A Passion for Education

Since its foundation, West Cork Music has been committed to creating valuable educational opportunities: it supports emerging musicians and helps grow appreciative audiences through its workshops and masterclasses, its innovative Young Musicians programme, and its active outreach to local schools.

The West Cork Chamber Music Festival, and the West Cork Literary Festival offer exceptional development opportunities for emerging artists and writers. Each summer, participants of all ages work alongside world-class musicians and leading literary figures – in masterclasses, workshops and performance settings – thriving in a festival environment where structured learning opportunities and spontaneous creative exchanges help inspiration and mentorship flourish.

Dedicated education hub

A Dedicated Education Hub

Now West Cork Music has exciting plans to develop its capacity to support musicians and writers, from grassroots to elite levels, through the development of a dedicated education hub.

An inclusive education hub will enable West Cork Music to nurture the talent of musicians and writers of all ages and abilities, fostering a love of the arts, and creating the stars and the audiences of the future. This education hub will also enable WCM to engage in more community animation activities, mobilising the power of music, words, and the arts to support individual and community wellbeing, social cohesion, and public health.

Arts in the Community

At West Cork Music we harness the extraordinary creativity of our region and help it flourish through our events, active outreach and collaborations. For example, we host events in partnership with ‘Creative Places West Cork Islands’, and WCM is an active member of Bantry Dementia Friendly Alliance – an ambitious HSE initiative which involves carers, festivals, churches, schools, retailers and hotels, among others, in the work of making Bantry a more accessible town for people with dementia and other memory issues, and their families and carers.

Our plans for an accessible and inclusive arts venue and education hub in the heart of Bantry reflect our mission to be an engine for enjoyment of, and participation in, the arts for years to come.
