Playwright and actress Alice Barry captivates her audience in her delightful, moving one-woman show. Fruitcake was originally performed as part of Bealtaine Festival in 2010. Under the guise of a cookery demonstration, her character Della Dolan shows us how to make ‘the perfect Fruitcake’ whilst she divests provoking memories to give a fascinating account of her life on an Irish farm.

Whilst making her ‘perfect fruitcake’ Della divulges a chequered past involving hardship, murder and intrigue but most of all great sacrifice, realisation and love. This is a theatrical experience not to be missed, offering a touching reminder of the richness of the human spirit.

 

Fruitcake was commissioned by Meath County Council Arts Office for Bealtaine Festival 2010 it toured Meath, Cavan and Louth. Bealtaine produced and toured Fruitcake to 25 venues nationally from Waterford to Donegal, Inis Oirr to Dublin for the festival 2011 and the show has been delighting audiences ever since.
