Kronos Quartet never came to Bantry. The Festival invited them many years ago and they were keen, but in the end it did not work out. Fifty for the Future was one of the many masterstrokes by that ever-inventive Quartet. Fifty composers, gender balanced, were commissioned, ten a year over five years to write new quartets. The key feature of the series was that all scores along with composers’ details and comments would be freely available online enabling young quartets to access a wide selection of contemporary works at no cost. Ragazze Quartet have a well deserved reputation for taking chamber music down new paths. A concert for the adventurous.
