Tiago Matias, originally from Aveiro (Portugal), studied at the Aveiro Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory and the Lisbon School of Music, graduating in guitar in 2005. Prizewinner at several competitions, he received the 1st Prize at Música en Compostela (2004).
He regularly collaborates with ensembles such as the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, Casa da Música Baroque Orchestra, Ludovice Ensemble, Segréis de Lisboa, Sete Lágrimas, and Divino Sospiro, recording 18 albums and performing internationally.
A specialist in historical plucked instruments, he founded the early music ensemble Noa Noa in 2012. His solo discography includes Cifras de Viola (2021), nominated for the Play – Portuguese Music Awards, Sospiro (2023), Fantasia (2024)—the first album entirely devoted to contemporary music for solo theorbo—Cordovil (2024), and Sombras (2025).
In 2025–2026 he undertakes his first solo world tour (26 concerts in 12 countries). He is currently a researcher and PhD candidate at the University of Coimbra.
