About Us

West Cork Music, founded in 1995, is a rural arts organisation that showcases world-class musical, literary, and artistic experiences against a dramatic coastal backdrop.

Each summer, West Cork Music (a registered charity) brings the highest calibre of musical and literary experiences to the southwest coast of Ireland to create powerful, immersive experiences for audiences, writers, musicians, and performers alike. Over 30 years, its festivals – the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, the West Cork Literary Festival, and Masters of Tradition (a celebration of excellence in traditional music) – have built an exceptional international reputation and rich networks.

The West Cork Music festivals are among the highlights of Bantry’s summers, and they have played a vital role in establishing the reputation of the Cork region as Ireland’s creative powerhouse. Meanwhile, the organisation behind them remains deeply rooted in its community. West Cork Music promotes learning through educational programmes from grassroots to elite levels, and it encourages participation in the arts through a growing year-round concert series, immersive workshops, and experiences aimed at growing artists’ skills and the audiences of the future.

Plans for the Future

West Cork Music (a registered charity) is now seeking to secure the future of the festivals, broaden their reach, and grow their economic impact by establishing a world-class, accessible arts venue and education hub in the heart of Bantry town. These new facilities, designed by award-winning McCullough Mulvin Architects, will bring together visitors, artists, and locals to participate in music, literature, creativity, and community against the backdrop of Bantry Bay. Thanks to their location next to Bantry’s iconic library, the new West Cork Music facilities will also help to shape an emerging and vibrant cultural quarter in our West Cork harbour town.
