The front lawn of Bantry House's renowned gardens overlooks Whiddy Island and the magnificent waters of Bantry Bay. Many of our festival goers make time between events to stroll through the gardens, and to climb the famous steps behind the house for views right across the bay and the Beara peninsula.
The garden is host, each year, to an incredibly scenic yoga session, as part of the literary festival. Hhouse and garden tour tickets are available, and garden tickets are one of the perks included in West Cork Music's friend scheme.
Bantry House is one of the finest historic houses in Ireland and commands one of the best views overlooking Bantry Bay in West Cork. It has been open to the public since 1946, the first historic house to open in this way in Ireland and possibly also in the British Isles. The house is still owned and lived in by the Shelswell-White family, who are direct descendants of Richard White (1, Earl of Bantry).
