‘It was when I was there myself and with my peers that it really changed my life’ – Sinéad O’Halloran, Marmen Quartet
For more than 20 years West Cork Music has invested in younger generations of musicians in Ireland. Young musicians are invited to the Chamber Music Festival to participate in masterclasses with visiting artists and world-renowned tutors, and to take advantage of unique performance and networking opportunities. Previous masterclass participants now making their mark as professional musicians all across the world include Mairéad Hickey, Sinéad O’Halloran and Séamus Hickey.
‘The masterclass programme has a huge impact on us as an ensemble and individually, because we’re playing for so many different artists with loads of ideas, and we just get them all.’ – Julieanne Forrest, masterclass student 2022 & 2023
Initiatives like this tend to fade away due to lack of resources, an issue that affects all our activities. In the current circumstances of escalating costs, our masterclass programme is increasingly dependent on the generosity of donors.
To invest in the future of top quality classical music in Ireland, please sponsor the Masterclass Programme.
‘If you look around at the orchestras in Ireland and abroad, many of the young musicians who’ve been in Bantry enjoy really good careers…What they’ve seen here has inspired them.’ – Christopher Marwood, National String Quartet Foundation
