This workshop is most suitable for emerging writers who are working towards their first book of non-fiction and have some publishing experience, whether that’s journalism articles or creative essays. However, new writers who would like to begin writing non-fiction are welcome to attend. Please note this workshop will be focused on creative or narrative non-fiction, so not straight history books, cookbooks or self-help. Examples of authors we may be reading during the workshop include Saidiya Hartman, Brian Dillon, Doireann Ní Ghríofa and Robin Wall Kimmerer.
Participants can submit up to 1000 words from a current work in progress or one of the writing exercises we do during the workshop on day two, to get feedback from Katie on day three. This doesn’t need to be submitted before the workshop begins.
Please bring a writing device (pen and paper or a laptop) to the workshop.
Katie Goh is a writer and editor. Foreign Fruit, her first work of narrative non-fiction, won Scotland's 2025 National Book Award for Debut Non-Fiction and her book of essays The End: Surviving the World...
