Trio Variations

Concerto 1700 is a Spanish Baroque ensemble dedicated to exploring the Spanish musical heritage of the 17th and 18th Centuries. This concert shows us the different approaches to the string trio - one with two violins and cello to contrast with the normal set-up of violin, viola and cello. Thanks to Concerto 1700’s researches we can hear two Trios by José Castel, who was an almost exact contemporary of Haydn, but whose music never reached the mainstream unlike Haydn and Boccherini. These four string trio divertimenti will give great pleasure. The four players are Daniel Pinteno and Fumiko Morie on violins, Ester Domingo on cello with Isabel Juárez on viola.

Admission: €12

12.30 CRESPO MIDDAY SERIES This series is a recent to the Festival and is a chance to listen to some of the lesser known works of chamber and solo music. These concerts are less than an hour, and take place in the beautiful Marino Church, the former home for the Methodists. This is music for listeners who like to wander off the beaten track. These concerts are generously supported by the Crespo Foundation, and are named after the late Ulrike Crespo, a great friend and donor to the Festival.
