Balanced on the edge of time's end.

For the day's final work we return to a work the Festival commissioned 25 years ago from the great Latvian composer, Peteris Vasks, who will hopefully be in Bantry for this performance. The Festival has commissioned many works over its 30 years, but Vasks Piano Quartet has received the most performances and recordings. For this performance violinist Diana Tischenko joins with Dana Zemtsov, Andreas Brantelid and José Gallardo. Vasks music is a long way from the coolly gleaming sounds of western European contemporary music. He is closer to the dancing rhythms of Latvian folk music and the grim truths of Shostakovich. The work is in 6 movements played without a break.

Admission: €16
