Family music-making in the Schubert household

These three youthful Sonatas were originally and incorrectly published as Sonatinas, presumably to encourage amateur musicians to try their hand at the scores. They were almost certainly written for home consumption in the highly musical Schubert household. Schubert was only nineteen when he wrote them. They are modelled on Mozart’s sonatas and completely ignore the ten Violin Sonatas Beethoven had already composed in the same city. Paris-based Cork violinist, Mairéad Hickey, is joined by French pianist, Jérémie Moreau as part of their joint survey of almost all Schubert’s works for violin and piano.

Admission: €28/22/16/12

If you can’t quite squeeze in a full two-hour concert, then here is the chance to listen to two world class musicians perform in the marvellous surroundings of Bantry House.
