As part of its Age Friendly programme, Cork County Council Library and Arts Service will launch the second edition of Come Sit Awhile, a collection of dementia friendly stories and memories. A number of readings will take place as part of the event, including the winning entries from their Age Friendly short story competition. Fiona Foley, Senior Project Manager at the HSE’s National Dementia Office with responsibility for “Dementia: Understand Together” and “Brain Health”, will also speak at the event to highlight the value of reading and being read to for those living with dementia. There are currently 64,000 people living with dementia in Ireland and this number is expected to reach 150,000 by 2045.
