Bantry Library first opened to the public in 1974 and it has served the people of Bantry and West Cork since then. This exhibition charts the history of the design and building of the library which is now a Protected Structure and is recorded on the National Inventory of Buildings of Ireland.

The exhibition will be displayed in the foyer of Bantry Library and will run from 9 to 26 July, during Library opening hours

Admission: Free. From 9-26 July during library hours

In addition to this exhibition, we will also host a discussion about the origins of the library with Harry Wallace, original Project Architect, and original contractors from Murnane & OʼShea Building Contractors, Jerry ‘Jer’ OʼSullivan and John OʼNeill along with Donal Hunt who was the M&OS workshop foreman. This event will be chaired by architect and Bantry native Dermot Harrington. Dermot has published Bantry Library: Bantry’s Brutalist Bibliotheque, an architectural archive celebrating Bantry Library’s fiftieth anniversary. This conversation will take place on Friday 19 July at 5pm.
