For the candlelit late night the Nightingales join with Matt Hunt for one of chamber music’s all-time favourites. It sounds best if you have not heard it for a while and it sounds even better in a setting like this. As with Brahms, Mozart was inspired by a brilliant clarinettist and long-time colleague, Anton Stadler, who in the autumn of 1789 begged Mozart for a work for a Christmas concert. Mozart was in the middle of composing his great opera Cosi fan Tutti,
but willingly turned aside to produce this masterpiece for a friend.
