West Cork Music would like to congratulate Elizabeth Troupe, who came to the 2025 Festival with the Baroque Masterclass group, Passeri Ensemble, is a joint winner for the Young Musician Award for String Players.

We also want to congratulate Aoife Kavanagh for winning the Jerome Hynes Young Composer Award. Aoife was a winner in the 2025 Young Composers Competition at the Festival for her piece Every Cloud Passses Over premiered by the Magnolia Quartet.

The €10,000 Young Musician Award for String Players will be shared between violinist Sam Monedero Egan, violinist Scarlett Xu and cellist Elizabeth Troup; mezzo-soprano Deirdre Arratoon has been awarded the €5,000 Bernadette Greevy Bursary Award and a performance in the Kevin Barry Recital Room; and composer Aoife Kavanagh has won the €2,500 Jerome Hynes Young Composer Award plus a commission to compose a work that will be premiered at the NCH. The awards were made following a call for submissions in January of this year. A shortlist of performers was then invited to perform for a panel of judges. – Journal of Music
