Canadian Writers at the 2019 Literary Festival

  Sunday 30 June 2019

The West Cork Literary Festival is honoured to welcome a delegation of Canadian writers to Bantry this summer.

Ottawa International Writers Festival presents an exciting trio of Canadian writers in Bantry Library on Tuesday 16 July at 1pm. Craig Davidson, Cherie Dimaline and Heather O’Neill will read from their work. As with all Bantry Library events, this is free admission.

Man Booker Prize 2018-nominated writer Esi Edugyan will be joined by fellow Canadian novelist Steven Price in the 6.30pm reading in the Maritime Hotel on Wednesday 17 July. They will read from their novels which were both inspired by real-life events. Esi Edugyan’s novel Washington Black was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2018, a New York Times Top Ten Book of the Year 2018 and included in Barack Obama’s list of his favourite books from 2018.

“Destined to become a future classic… that rare book that should appeal to every kind of reader.” The Guardian

Craig, Cherie, Heather, Esi and Steven are part of a delegation of Canadian writers selected by Ottawa International Writers Festival. We acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts.

Another Canadian writer visiting the Festival this year is Toronto-born poet and essayist Anne Carson who reads in the Maritime Hotel on Sunday 14 July at 8.30pm.

There are still tickets available for the two Maritime Hotel readings. You’ll find more details in our programme pages.
