Sonoro Quartet

Instruments: String Quartets

Mona Verhas, Jeroen De Beer [violins], Séamus Hickey [cello], Kalle de Bie [cello]

Founded in 2019, the Sonoro Quartet unites musicians from Ireland, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Renowned for blending classical masterpieces with contemporary works, they have quickly become one of Europe’s most exciting young string quartets.

In 2022, Sonoro Quartet was selected as ECHO Rising Stars for the 2023–2024 season, performing across Europe’s leading concert halls, including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Musikverein Vienna, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and Philharmonie de Luxembourg. They are also members of the MERITA Platform, developing innovative artistic projects throughout Europe. International recognition came in 2021 when they won 3rd Prize and two special prizes at the Bartók World Competition in Budapest. That same year, they performed Bartók’s quartets at the Bartók Memorial House to great acclaim.

The quartet has received mentorship from Marc Danel, Gilles Millet, and Eberhard Feltz, and collaborated with members of the Quatuor Ébène, Pavel Haas, Belcea, and Artemis Quartets. Highlights include performances at Bozar Brussels, Liszt Academy Budapest, National Concert Hall Dublin, and festivals such as West Cork, Lofoten, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Their music has been broadcast internationally on Klara, RTÉ, SWR, and Radio New Zealand.

They return to Ireland in Spring 2027 for a tour with the National String Quartet Foundation.
