New Dublin Voices is an internationally acclaimed Irish chamber choir founded in Dublin in October 2005 by conductor Bernie Sherlock. The ensemble’s repertoire spans the medieval through to the contemporary, with a special emphasis on living composers and world-premieres of Irish works. The choir is known for its innovative programming, high-performance standard and extensive touring of major festivals in Europe, the UK, North America and beyond. It has gained numerous international competition prizes, underpinning its reputation as one of Ireland’s foremost choral ensembles. Through its commitment to both tradition and innovation, New Dublin Voices contributes significantly to the living art of choral singing in Ireland and on the world stage.
Bernie Sherlock is an Irish choral conductor, teacher, adjudicator and lecturer. She founded New Dublin Voices in 2005 and remains its artistic director. She holds a BA in Music from Trinity College Dublin, and Masters and Doctorate degrees in conducting from the National University of Ireland Maynooth and the Royal Irish Academy of Music/DCU respectively. Sherlock studied choral conducting in Hungary (with Ildikó Herboly-Kocsár and Peter Erdei) and orchestral conducting under Gerhard Markson in Dublin. Under her leadership, New Dublin Voices has won many top honours, including the Grand Prix at competition level; she herself has received international conducting prizes in Finland, Hungary, Belgium, Italy, Slovenia and Ireland. Alongside performance work she teaches at the TU Dublin Conservatoire, directs choral summer schools and adjudicates internationally.
