Máirín Fahy and Patsy Broderick

Instruments: Fiddle | Piano

Growing up in East Galway, an area renowned for its unique style of traditional music, Máirín Fahy from Ballinakill and Patsy Broderick from Kilreekil have been playing music together since childhood. As members of the All Ireland winning Junior Ballinakill Céili Band, they were influenced by the music of Máirín’s aunt Aggie Whyte, her mam Bridie Whyte (Fahy) the Broderick family and musicians of the surrounding area.

Máirín and Patsy, as aspiring musicians, spent many Sunday afternoons in Aggies house listening to Fr. P.J.Kelly, a Columban missionary who on his return from a Mission term would join in the musical gatherings with local musicians in Cappycun, playing many of his own charming melodious compositions. Whilst living in Dublin, Máirín and Patsy joined in the vibrant traditional music session scene and were members of the all female group Macalla. They have both pursued very successful individual music careers, Máirín with Reeltime and soloist with Riverdance and the Chieftains and currently with Trad on the Prom and Patsy as a member of Gaelforce, Arcady and the Senior All Ireland winning Shannon Vale Ceili Band.

Máirín and Patsy were delighted to get back to their roots in East Galway, recording the wonderful compositions of Fr. P.J. Kelly. The title of their album is “Galway to Fiji’ The music of Fr. Kelly
