Michael Magee is the fiction editor of The Tangerine and a graduate of the PhD Creative Writing programme at Queen’s University, Belfast. His writing has appeared in Winter Papers, The Stinging Fly, The Lifeboat and in The 32: An Anthology of Working Class Writing. He lives in Belfast. Close to Home is his first novel and in 2023 he won The Rooney Prize for Literature, the Nero Book Award for Debut Fiction and the Waterstones Irish Book of the Year. He was also shortlisted for the Charlotte Aitken Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award 2024, the An Post Irish Book Awards Newcomer of the Year 2023, the Waterstones Debut Fiction Prize 2023 and longlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize For Literature 2024.
