Madeleine D’Arcy’s debut short story collection, Waiting For The Bullet (Doire Press, 2014), won the Edge Hill Readers’ Choice Prize 2015 (UK). In 2010 she received the Hennessy Literary Awards for First Fiction and New Irish Writer. She holds an MA in Creative Writing (First Class Honours) from UCC. With fellow-writer Danielle McLaughlin, she co-hosts Fiction at the Friary, a regular monthly event in Cork City. Her short fiction has appeared in various newspapers, journals and anthologies, including: Surge: New Writing From Ireland (O’Brien Press, 2014); Quarryman (UCC, 2014 and 2015); Headstuff.org (2015); Looking at the Stars–An Anthology of Irish Writing (2016); Sunset Drinking the Black Ocean (2016), Head Land–Ten Years of the Edge Hill Short Story Prize (UK, 2016), The Elysian–Creative Responses (New Binary Press, 2017); Counterparts–A Synergy of Law and Literature (Stinging Fly Press, 2018), Europe revue littéraire mensuelle (Sept-Oct 2019), Cork Words (Cork City Libraries, 2020) and The Purple House Anthology of New Irish Writing (New Island, 2020). She lives in Cork City, Ireland, with her husband and son. Madeleine’s new short story collection, Liberty Terrace, was published by Doire Press in October 2021.
