David Bergmüller

David Bergmüller was born in Tirol and began his musical education with the classical guitar. During his studies at the Tirol Conservaotry with Stefan Hackl he discovered his passion for the lute. He then studied from 2009 until 2012 at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Hopkinson Smith, after which he earned a Master degree in Trossingen with Rolf Lislevand.

As a  sought-after continuo player, David has concertized with Concentus Musicus, La Cetra, I Barocchisti, the Collegium 1704, Ars Antiqua Austria; he has collaborated with Maurice Steger, Sergio Azzolini, Rold Lislevand and Alessandro de Marchi.

He won the Rolf Aumann Proze at the H.I.F. Biber Competition in St. Florian in 2017. Since 2018 David Bergmüller is Professor of Lute at the Cologne University of Music and Dance.
