Dónal McCague

Described by Matt Molloy as “a remarkable musician”, Dónal McCague from Co. Monaghan was awarded TG4 Young Musician of the Year in 2013. Dónal is well known for his vibrant, fresh and unique style. In 2011 he released his début solo CD entitled Bits’n’Pieces and has performed on Irish TV programs such as Béaloideas Beo, Geantraí, Imeall & Gradam Ceoil on TG4 and on RTÉ’s Fleadh Programme.

He was won awards at both the Fiddler of Dooney, Sligo and the Fiddler of Oriel, Monaghan.

Dónal has featured on various albums over the past few years including on Michael McCague’s “The Waylaid Man” as well as having recorded on & arranged on Seán McElwain’s “Our Dear Dark Mountain with the Sky Over It” album of Monaghan music, an album which was awarded the Collaboration Award at Gradam Ceoil TG4, 2016.

Dónal & Tommy Fitzharris released their critically acclaimed fiddle & flute duet album entitled ‘The Bank of Turf’ in 2018 which was described by Frankie Gavin as “One of my all-time favourites; one I can leave on repeat for hours!”
