Paul Ezergailis

Paul was born in Australia, one of six sons to Latvian parents who emigrated there shortly after the Second World War.

Aged nineteen, he moved to Europe to study at the Lucerne Conservatorium of Music. There he joined a concert diploma class taught by the renowned Swiss violinist and conductor Rudolf Baumgartner, co-founder of Lucerne Festival Strings and one-time director of the Lucerne Festival. Paul met his wife in Lucerne and they settled in Galway, her home town, which is now their home.

His distinguished career has encompassed the following highlights, to name but a few: Concertmaster of the Oslo Philharmonic, Guest Leader of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and National Symphony Orchestra and thirty years as a member of The Academy of St Martin in the Fields. Paul is also Artistic Director and Leader of the Luminosa String Orchestra and a Board Member of the Galway Youth Orchestra.
