Klaus Grünke learned the craft of bow making from his father Richard Grünke, in Bubenreuth. In the years 1980- 1982 he worked for Hans Weisshaar in Los Angeles where he got the chance to study and restore fine old bows. Back in Germany he continued to work under his name, providing numerous renowned string players with his bows based on the model of Peccatte, Kittel and others. He successfully participated in various international bow making competitions and later has been continuously called to serve as a juror. In addition to bow making, Klaus Grünke was co-author of the publication “German Bow Makers”(2000)  and the comprehensive book about. “the Bows of Nikolai Kittel” (2011). He is member of the VDG, Verband Deutscher Geigenbauer und Bogenmacher, EILA, Entente Internationale des Maitres Luthiers et Archetiers D‘Art, and founding member of  IPCI, International Pernambuco Conservation Initiative.
