Shane Hegarty

Genres: Children | Fiction | Irish Writing | Novel

Shane Hegarty is the author of The Shop of Impossible Ice-Creams which will be published by Hachette Children’s in June 2022. Before becoming a full-time writer, Shane Hegarty was a journalist and editor of the Irish Times, and worked in radio and the music business. He is the author of the bestselling middle-grade series, Darkmouth – which is currently being developed into a big screen animation. Darkmouth was nominated for the Waterstones Prize. Boot is his first series for younger readers. He lives near Dublin with his wife and a brutally honest young readers focus group – otherwise known as his four children.

Jeff Crowther is the illustrator of Shane’s latest book. For as long as Jeff can remember the only two things he’s really wanted to do have been draw and tell stories. Eating burritos fits in there somewhere too. His passion for storytelling has led him to the fantastic world of children’s illustration and he couldn’t be happier! Jeff’s work has appeared in picture books, graphic novels, magazines, educational publications and on television. Jeff lives in Ohio with his family and unfortunately won’t be able to join Shane at West Cork Literary Festival.
