Dr Mary McGill is a Media Studies lecturer, researcher and journalist. She is a former Hardiman Scholar at the National University of Ireland, Galway, where her doctoral study explored young women’s experiences of self-representation online. Her work has appeared in a range of print, digital and broadcast titles in Ireland, the UK and the US including Broadly, the BBC, Vogue, VICE, Refinery29, The Pool, Sunday Business Post, Irish Independent, Irish Times and Virgin Media. She is a regular contributor to RTÉ Radio One’s nightly arts show Arena. Her first book, The Visibility Trap: Sexism, Surveillance and Social Media, published by New Island in 2021, was named a Sunday Business Post Book of the Year.
