8 – Padraig Regan

Genres: Debut | Irish Writing | Poetry
Padraig Regan's poetry collection Some Integrity has a light grey cover with white and mauve writing. The image looks like a rip in the cover with a detail of a naked body where the person is hunched over with their arms wrapped around themselves.

Welcome to Day 8 of our 2022 West Cork Literary Festival Advent Calendar. Our author today is Padraig Regan.

Padraig Regan is the author of two poetry pamphlets: Delicious (Lifeboat, 2016) and Who Seemed Alive & Altogether Real (Emma Press, 2017). In 2015, they were a recipient of an Eric Gregory Award, and in 2020 they were awarded the Ireland Chair of Poetry Bursary Prize. They hold a PhD on creative-critical and hybridised writing practices in medieval texts and the work of Anne Carson from the Seamus Heaney Centre, Queen’s University Belfast, where they were a Ciaran Carson Writing and the City Fellow in 2021. Their debut book, Some Integrity (Carcanet, 2022) was the recipient of the 2021 Clarissa Luard Prize, awarded by the David Cohen Foundation, and has been shortlisted for the Forward Prize for best first collection.

About our WCLF Literary Advent Calendar

2022 was another wonderful year for Irish writing and so many incredible books by Irish authors and authors living in Ireland were released this year. We’re delighted to bring you a small selection of these authors and we’ve invited twenty-four writers to submit a short video reading from their new books. Our selection is an attempt to show the wide range of Irish writing and in particular to focus on writers whose books we feel deserve more attention and those who were not previously featured in WCLF 2022 events. We hope that you will enjoy the chance to hear these writers reading their own work and to discover some new books for your reading piles.
