Every great fantasy story has one thing in common – they make us believe that magic could happen. Join award-winning fantasy author Dave Rudden (Knights of the Borrowed Dark, The Forever Court) as he shows you how to develop character, create magic systems and build worlds so real you'll want to visit them yourself.

Dave Rudden has brought author talks and creative writing workshops to over two hundred schools, libraries and festivals across Ireland and the UK. His work has appeared in the Guardian, the Stinging Fly and the Irish Times, and has been shortlisted for the Hennessey New Writing Prize and the Bath Short Story Prize. He is the recipient of the 2011 Fantasy Book Review Short Story Prize. His first novel, Knights of the Borrowed Dark, was the winner of the Specsavers’ Senior Children’s Book of the Year Award and the Most Read Novel at the School Library Association Great Reads Awards. The sequel The Forever Court is published this April. He enjoys keeping pens in his beard and being cruel to fictional children.

Dave’s workshop will be for a maximum of fifteen children. Workshops are free and early booking is recommended. Please bring paper and a pen or pencil with you on the day.

In addition to this workshop, Dave will be reading from Knights of the Borrowed Dark and The Forever Court on Wednesday 19 July at 3pm
