Niek de Groot

Dutch musician Niek de Groot is one of today's leading classical bassists.
Since completing a 10 year tenure as first solo-bass with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2006, he has dedicated himself to chamber music and solo performances. In 1996 he was appointed Senior Professor at the Folkwang University for the Arts in Essen, Germany. Niek developed his skills at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada and studied with cellists Frans Helmerson and Lluìs Claret. He has recorded solo CDs for EMI and Nimbus. In 2016/17 he will record additional CDs for BIS and Audite. After five years of playing the Amati double bass from 1680, in December 2015 he acquired the lifelong privilege to play the world famous Domenico Montagnana double bass from 1747.
