Music-in-Schools Programme for Autumn 2022

Music-in-Schools Programme for Autumn 2022

  Friday 30 September 2022

West Cork Music are delighted to announce the full details of our music-in-schools programme for autumn 2022.

Guitar and Flute Duo – October 20, 21 & November 10, 11 & 17

Flautist Eilis O’Sullivan and guitarist Jerry Creedon explain, demonstrate and perform selections of music from the Renaissance to present day tangos. Through participation in an ensemble exercise, the students will learn about teamwork, cooperation, and what it takes to be part of a
successful group. Each performance is linked to an age-appropriate ‘roadmap’ of musical understanding. Areas such as structure, rhythm, techniques, etc. are explained and demonstrated to the students.

Clarinet and Cello Duo – November 7 – 10

In this interactive and participator workshop, clarinettist Matthew Berrill and cellist Aoife Burke will play a combination of instruments including clarinet, saxophone, cello and guitar/keyboard. They will introduce the students to the worlds of jazz and the blues, looking at the similarities between music styles including traditional Irish music, classical and jazz/improvisatory music.

All Primary and Secondary schools in Cork are eligible to apply for these workshops. Each workshop will last approximately 1hr including time for questions and discussion. Students do not need to have any formal music training to take part in these workshops. Due to limited availability, all workshops will be allocated to schools on a first-come first-served basis.

Please return the attached application form to sara@westcorkmusic.ie by Monday 10 October 2022. If there are any unsuitable dates during your chosen workshop week, please specify on the application form.
