Live Music Returns to Schools

Live Music Returns to Schools

  Thursday 13 January 2022

More than eighteen months after the last live Tuning Up school workshops of February 2020, West Cork Music was delighted to finally be able to bring live music into County Cork classrooms in November 2021.

Cork-based Hifilutin Quartet, made up of flautists Katrina Emtage, Maria Mulcahy, Aoife O’Donovan and Eilís O’Sullivan, presented their workshop to primary and secondary school students across the county.

Hifilutin Flute Quartet has many years of experience in teaching music and its members are passionate about making music accessible and enjoyable to all. They have entertained audiences through the Cork Coco Pops series with Music in the Park and have also played in the Triskel Arts Centre Summer series and in the Hugh Lane Gallery Sundays at Noon series in Dublin.

They visited schools as far west as Goleen as well as Bantry, Durrus and Clonakilty. Also welcoming the quartet were schools in Blackrock, Fermoy, Carrigtwohill and Gardiner’s Hill, Cork city. These schools hadn’t signed up for Tuning Up workshops before and so our live music offering reached a new and enthusiastic audience.

We look forward to our next week of school workshops at the end of January and to resuming our usual schedule of Cork County Council-funded Tuning Up workshops in autumn/winter 2022.

Tuning Up is part of Cork County Council’s Arts in Schools Programme and is organised and managed by West Cork Music.  Tuning Up is part funded by the Arts Council/An Comhairle Ealaíon
