Now in its fifth year, the Irish Writers Centre Young Writer Delegate Programme has partnered with WCLF for the second time – and for the first time in person. Our four IWC/WCLF Young Writer Delegates, Mark Jackson, Darcey Dugan, Em Egan Reeve, and Caitlin Young will spend the week at WCLF and in this showcase they will share some of the creative work developed during the festival with their mentor, Danielle McLaughlin.

The Irish Writers Centre Young Writer Delegates programme is open to writers aged 18-26 living anywhere on the island of Ireland with strong interest in writing, reading and an ambition to connect with and contribute to the Irish literary scene. There were so many incredible applications and we are delighted to be welcoming Mark Jackson, Darcey Dugan, Em Egan Reeve and Caitlin Young to this year’s West Cork Literary Festival.

IWC Young Writer Delegates Programme is intended to give young writers an opportunity to immerse themselves in a literature festival, soak up the atmosphere and to contribute to it as active participants. The YWDs get a behind-the-scenes look at the literary arts scene and engage in writing activities leading up to, during and after the festival, to develop their own writing skills. During the festival period, they are supported by an IWC facilitator and a local writer mentor to reflect on the festival and share their views via the festival and the IWC’s social media platforms.

Irish Writers Centre

In 2022, the Irish Writers Centre launched a new 5 year strategy.

For over 30 years as the leading support and development organisation for writers, the Irish Writers Centre has acknowledged and uplifted those with the courage and compulsion to write by providing opportunities for them to develop their skill, advance their ambitions and join a vibrant and diverse community of people who share their passion and purpose. We carry out our work, online and in person, on an all island basis. Our just-launched strategy outlines a commitment to diversity and sustainability across our activities and its ambition is to connect writers of all types and talents across the island.
