Paddy will explain how to create a picture book, from the initial idea to the finished book. He will talk about combining words and pictures, the page turn and how he creates his artwork. He will also show you how to layout your manuscript, how long to make your story, and why following your own interests when it comes to characters and subjects is so powerful.

Sarah will talk about writing novels for children, from the initial idea and the research, to creating characters and crafting a plot. She will discuss age groups and word counts, and will also explain how young readers’ needs have changed over recent years and why reading contemporary children’s books is so important for children’s writers.

Paddy and Sarah will also take questions from the floor.
