Join acclaimed Welsh writer Cynan Jones for a three-day short story workshop that will help give you the tools and motivation to make your short stories stronger.
The writing workshop – held as part of the West Cork Literary Festival – will run from Wednesday 15 to Friday 17 July, from 9.30am to 2.30pm each day with two breaks built into the day.
Hands-on teaching sessions will get you working with the words themselves, with the why and what of your writing, and with key elements of good fiction such as structure, tone and impact. You’ll dig into the writing you’ve already done to find possibilities you might not have seen, provoke your characters, and set them into a compelling world.
During the workshop, each participant will also benefit from a 1-1 clinic to discuss a work in progress, which you’ll be invited to send for Cynan to read ahead of the course.
Max: 15 participants
Participants will be asked to submit up to 1,500 words from work in progress, along with some context for the extract they submit, and an idea of where they believe they are with their writing in general. This must be submitted by 1 July.
