The Wolf of Baghdad is a graphic memoir of a lost homeland, a wordless narrative by an author homesick for a home she has never visited. Musician and cartoonist Carol Isaacs will show a short video preview with Iraqi and Judeo-Arabic music and will discuss the historical context and the making of the project. Carol will be in conversation with Sorcha Pollak.
Please note that this is a live zoom webinar and will not be recorded. Therefore it will only be available as a live event and open to those who register in advance.
In the 1940’s, over a third of Baghdad’s population was Jewish. Within a decade nearly all of Iraq’s 150,000 Jews had fled. Of those remaining, most escaped in the 1970’s or were killed. Today only three remain. The Wolf of Baghdad is a graphic memoir of a lost homeland, a wordless narrative by an author homesick for a home she has never visited. A short video preview of the book, with a soundtrack of Iraqi and Judeo-Arabic music, will be shown by its creator, musician/cartoonist Carol Isaacs. Carol will then present a slideshow to provide historical context and a background about the making of the project. She will be exploring themes of identity and belonging and the little-known story of Iraqi Jews. This will be followed by a discussion with Carol and the audience will have the opportunity to submit questions.
