Una giga para Carlos [2006]

This Festival had a long-standing relationship with John Kinsella featuring many of his works and commissioning even more. We learnt of his death towards the end of last year with great sadness. Most of the Festival programme was already in place, but the presence of Malachy Robinson with the Crash Ensemble enabled us to slip this exciting jig into the programme. The original work was composed for the Mexican cellist, Carlos Prieto, to play on a visit to Dublin in 2008. Carlos had a very special Stradivarius cello, which was for a time owned by the Piggott family in Dublin. Malachy Robinson made the bass edition, which he included in his recording of the Irish Double Bass.
