Piaras Ó Lorcáin is a traditional sean-nós singer from Crossmaglen, County Armagh, and one of the most distinctive young voices in Irish traditional song today. Immersed in music from early childhood, he began singing at just four years of age and has remained deeply connected to the Irish language and its rich oral heritage ever since. Educated through Irish at Gaelscoil Phádraig Naofa, he developed not only fluency in the language but a profound appreciation for its storytelling and song tradition. During these formative years, he was encouraged and mentored by Bláthín Mhic Cánna, who recognised his natural ability and nurtured his passion for language, narrative and music — foundations that continue to shape his artistic identity.

Over the years, Piaras has achieved notable success in major traditional music competitions including the Fleadh, the Feis, the Oireachtas and Scór, establishing his reputation as a compelling exponent of sean-nós, the unaccompanied singing style renowned for its expressive ornamentation, emotional depth and close relationship to place. A particularly important influence on his development has been Padraigín Ní Uallacháin, with whom he shares a strong connection to the Oriel song tradition. Through this relationship, he has further immersed himself in the rich tapestry of songs and stories native to his region, helping to sustain and revitalise that repertoire for contemporary audiences.
