The Busy Trio

Composers such as Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky and Piazzolla have all written works about the seasons for various ensembles; Saint-Saëns and Vaughan Williams are credited with iconic pieces depicting swans and larks; look further and you’ll easily find musical representations of sunrises and falling leaves, storms and birdsong, frost and golden fields.

Join Lesya Iglody (violin), Maria O’Connor (cello) and Tom Doyle (piano) – affectionately known as the Busy Trio – as they embark on an aural-visual journey throughout the calendar year and discover the wealth of programme music wrapped up in nature’s charm. The Trio will also chart the various compositional techniques, means and methods by which composers from the seventeenth century to the present day have effectively and ingeniously expressed nature through sound.

Students will also have the opportunity to experience the Trio in its various formations (as solo instruments, duos and the established Trio) demonstrating the scope of each individual instrument, the various and differing ensemble options, the importance of communal listening, the use of physical gesture, and the significance of breath in chamber music.
