We are privileged to have Marc Danel, leader of the incomparable Quatuor Danel, as a masterclass tutor. Marc has been championing the quartets and chamber music of the great Russian composer, Weinberg, and so will partner Festival regular, Alexei Grynyuk, in Weinberg’s Fourth Violin Sonata. Here tenderness and drama are found side-by-side in its three continuous, intertwined movements. Berlioz’ Nuits d’été is a song cycle for incurable romantics – the search for wild strawberries, the ecstatic spectre of a rose you wore at the ball last night, everywhere doomed lovers and, of course, the Unknown Isle where love endures for ever.
