West Cork Music is bringing a range of concerts to keep us going into the winter.
The season begins as always with events for Culture Night. The much-loved Meliora Quartet will perform in the evening at St Brendan’s Church and before that RP O’Donnell will talk about his book in the Bantry Bookshop.
For traditional music lovers Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh will lead a group featuring Pauline Scanlon, Tom Doyle and Tom Morrow in an exploration of traditional Irish music. Together they will weave new interpretations with time-honoured tradition in an evening of exquisite harmonies, fiery instrumentals and musical storytelling at its finest.
West Cork Choral Singers will return again, joined by the Resurgam, a professional choir based in Galway, directed by Mark Duley. These choirs will join together for an evening of German Baroque Motets in St Brendan’s Church.
As always we have concerts for our dedicated Chamber Music lovers. The brilliant Raja Quartet opens a treasure trove of great music from the first half of the 20th century, from around the world: Ukraine, Argentina, Austria and Ireland. And the ever-popular Vanbrugh are joined by Marja Gaynor and Ed Creedon for a programme of Romantic Masters from the string quintet repertoire.
And there is a new addition to the Autumn Concert Series. Over the October bank holiday, West Cork Music is launching a New Festival. Aiteall is a Singer-Songwriter weekend taking place in venues all over Bantry, with music across a spectrum of genres and will include concerts, workshops and discussions. “Aiteall” is the Irish word for a sunny break in weather between rain showers, and also represents moments of joy in dark times. We hope the beautiful moments of live music we bring to Bantry as we settle into our wintery months reflect the sentiment of “aiteall”.
