Eine kleine Streichmusik Op.95b

Bertold Hummel’s parents were from the Black Forest, both were musical and his father was the
local teacher, choirmaster and organist. Hummel’s musical education was
interrupted by the War, when he served in the German army and was taken
prisoner in France.
He formed an orchestra in the POW camp and his first quartet was premiered
there. He participated in the famous courses at Darmstadt where he met Messiaen, Leibowitz
and Nono. From 1963 he taught composition at the Bavarian State Conservatory at
Wurzburg. Eine kleine Streichmusik carries no
trace of the postwar upheavals in contemporary music. It is a gentle,
light-hearted piece, probably written for young performers.
