West Cork Music has been glad to participate in the research for this report. As you will see there is a great gender imbalance among composers. West Cork Music statistics include commissioned works and the Young Composers Competition.
People familiar with the Chamber Music Festival will know that the Festival hosts a Young Composers Competition every year. Historically more than two thirds of submissions come from male applicants.
So while our commissioned works in the main festival are probably close to even between the genders, we would encourage more young female composers to submit to the competition.
