THE DEEP HEART’S CORE

In The Deep Heart’s Core over 100 Irish poets accept the invitation to revisit a favourite, key or touchstone poem of their own, and offer a short commentary on same – as they might at a live event.

The result is an illuminating, thought-provoking and holly engaging anthology as selected by the poets themselves, and a rare glimpse into the thinking, feeling and craft behind the finished poems.

The Deep Heart’s Core is edited by Cork poet and editor Eugene O’Connell and Pat Boran of Dedalus Press and it’s an ideal introduction to contemporary Irish poetry.

‘A wonderfully full and various shapshot of Irish poetry at a particular time in its illustrious history. It shows Irish poetry to be in very good form: engaged, confident and accomplished… A marvelous showcase.’Bernard O’Donoghue in his foreword

Three of the featured poets – Theo Dorgan, John FitzGerald and Doireann Ní Ghriofa – will read their touchstone poem as part of this event and will chat to Eugene O’Connell about what that poem means to them.
