Hervé Joulain

At 40 years of age, Hervé Joulain continues on his splendid career path, playing the concerti of Haydn, Mozart, Schumann, Weber, Saint-Saëns, Strauss, and Britten with 100 different orchestras in countries such as France, Canada, the United States, Romania, Finland, Japan, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Georgia, Germany, and Spain, to name just a few.

His impressive career (including several international prizes) has also lead him to get involved in performing chamber music, most notably with Paul Tortelier, Pierre Amoyal, Vadim Repin, Michel Dalberto, Boris Berezowski, Boris Belkin, Pinchas Zukerman, Natacha Guttman, Gérard Caussé, Régis Pasquier, Brigitte Engerer, and Yuri Bashmet. He has played in France, all of eastern and western Europe, Canada, the United States, and Israël. During the 18 years that he has been first horn soloist in the Orchestres Philharmonique de Radio France and the National de France, Hervé Joulain has worked with Charles Dutoit, Seiji Ozawa, Ricardo Mutti, Bernard Haïtink, Léonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, Daniel Baremboïm, Pierre Boulez, and Lorin Maazel, among others.

Today, thanks to Lorin Maazel, he plays first horn solo in the Symphonica Toscanini in Italy. He is also one of the founding members of the Ensemble à Vent Paris Bastille (Paris Bastille Wind Ensemble) with which he has played in the celebrated music halls of Amsterdam, Rio, Valencia, Berlin, Copenhagen, Tokyo, Lisbon, Paris, Cologne, London.
